Lev Eisha   A joyous community of Jewish women engaged in prayer, study and spiritual growth

Join us for Breakfast, Study and Prayer on May 5, 2007

Our next service is on May 5, 2007(17 Iyar 5766.). Breakfast and study begins at 8:30 AM, led by Rabbi August, followed by our service in the sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. A Kiddush lunch will be served after services.

The breakfast and lunch are being sponsored by Dr. Vivian Feintech to thank the Lev Eisha Community for their love and support as she completed her doctoral studies.

Rabbi August’s breakfast topic will be "Yearning for Love.”

Using the text Yearnings: Embracing the Sacred Messiness of Life, by Irwin Kula, (available on our website), we will look at the chapter on LOVE. We will study different sections of this amazing chapter. Here is an excerpt:

"It's amazing how many couples come to me on the brink of divorce having never understood or accepted the wondrous, excruciating dialectic that is intimacy. It's not just that ‘marriage is a lot of work,’ ...It is that marriage, or any close relationship, is a place where you learn about your self - your shadows and your light. It's a place where we are meant to wrestle with ourselves, as well as our loved one, in order to give birth to a new world."

Using Biblical and Rabbinic stories, Irwin Kula explores the layered complexity of life in his teaching about relationships. We will study and talk and sing and laugh and cry! Join us at 8:30 for the breakfast teaching before the service.

  From Barbara's Kitchen

This month we celebrate Shavuot when it is customary to eat dairy foods. With this in mind I am sharing a recipe that has been passed around at board meetings. Everyone says it is a must for our newsletter and I was saving it for now. It is an ideal dish to serve at a brunch. The recipe came to us from one of our members: Libby Sklamberg.

Bagel-Lox Strata

1/4 cup melted butter
8 cups plain bagels cut into bite size pieces.
12 ounces lox cut into small pieces
8 ounces Jack cheese grated
1/4 cup fresh chives and/or scallions

8 eggs beaten
2 cups milk
1 cup cottage cheese
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Spread melted butter on the bottom of a 3 quart (9 x 13) rectangular baking dish. Spread bagel pieces evenly in prepared dish. Sprinkle lox, Jack cheese and chives/scallions over bagel pieces.

In large bowl combine beaten eggs, milk, cottage cheese, and pepper. Pour over layers in dish. Press down gently to moisten all of the ingredients. Cover and chill in the refrigerator over night up to 24 hours.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes uncovered. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
Serves 12-15.

Lev Eisha Summer Program

We are pleased to announce that Lev Eisha will again offer a summer program. In July, due to the Rabbi’s absence we will have a teaching Shabbat in lieu of a service.

August will be a service with Rabbi August.

Our Garden Party Success

Hats off to Janis Cohen and her committee for a tremendous success. It is no wonder that we had such an achievement since we had a large group of dedicated Lev Eisha members working diligently for quite some time. The setting was beautiful and the food was as delicious as it looked. It was a most enjoyable afternoon. Congratulations again to our two deserving honorees,
Cindy Paley Aboody and Sally Weber.

Milestones

Mazel Tov to Vivian Feintech upon receiving her Doctor of Ministry in Jewish Spiritual Direction.

If you have a milestone to share please send it to: editor@leveisha.org. Our newsletter gets printed about a week before each service. Please send the info ASAP.
